I had an extraordinary trip to South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. I began in Johannesburg for two nights and visited the Nelson Mandela sites, which were fascinating. From there we flew to Madikwe Private Game Reserve for a three day safari where we were able to see the big five as well as many other animals. Our lodge was right in the reserve, so we could watch the elephants, zebras and giraffes from our deck with a plunge pool. Our highlight after seeing all the animals, was having a wine tasting table with hors d'oeuvre out in the bush under the stars. It was unbelievable. From the game reserve we flew to Cape Town. Everyone is extremely friendly and it is very easy to get around. Some of the highlights here are Table Mountain, Robben Island and the water front area. The watershed and the African Women's Craft Market are great places to go and pick up some local items. We were able to travel along the peninsula to see the African Penguins at Boulder's Beach, visited the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Wildlife, scenery and wine are abundant. Our last adventure was going to Victoria Falls and seeing it from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides. You get two different perspectives, just like Niagara Falls from the US and Canadian sides. We experienced a Boma, which is an outdoor event where a meal is prepared of different meats and other things. We tried crocodile tail, warthog steaks Mopani Worms, Steenbok, Impala, as well as other items. I am headed to Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar in October this year. I am very anxious to experience these new locations.
