Australia being about the same size as the U.S., it takes several trips to see all of Australia. After your first visit you will want to make a return trip to see more. I spent time in the Top End and Darwin. Darwin has a very compact downtown area, good for walking around and visiting museums as well as shopping. After a short one hour flight, we arrived at Davidson's Arnhemland Safaris at Mt. Borradaile, to the east of Kakadu National Park. This is a registered aboriginal sacred site with rock art paintings. It was very fascinating to bushwalk and to see some of the thousands of year old paintings on the rocks and hear about the dream time. From here a 20 minute flight took us to Bamarru Plains, to the west of Kakadu National Park. Bamarru Plains is a water buffalo station on a flood plain. We took airboats out on the flood plains to see salt water crocs, water buffalo, geese and birds. When the motor is shut off, all you can hear is the nature. We also saw wallabies and hundreds of cockatoos. They offer fishing, photography and pure relaxation. You also have to make a stop in Sydney. Don't miss The Rock, Sydney Harbor and, of course, The Opera House. I highly suggest an aboriginal tour for a firsthand experience.
